  • Facebook...

I've been away from Xanga so long that I hardly know how to do this anymore!  Yikes!

After spending time on Facebook, Xanga is looking like a nice, calm site, somewhere between refreshing and relaxing!

Who knows, maybe I'll be back here and put FB on the back burner...leave it for all the younger people who are used to so much white noise in their life.

Merry Christmas Xanga friends!  May your time with family and friends be blessed, filled with the Glory of the Lord!

  • Dreams

3:45 - walking back to bed she could tell by his breathing that he was awake and whispers, "are you awake?"  pause - "yes", he answers, "and no!"  Climbing back into bed, crossing over her side, she snuggles up to his back and asks with a sigh, "why are we up so early?"  He answers, "I had a bad dream...how about you?"  Not answering the question she asks her own, "bad dream, what about?"  Long pause..."I was being arrested for murder!"  Laughing...

I guess that's what happens when we listen to a book on CD every morning on the way to the train...a thriller...and then throw in not knowing if we will close on the new house today or not...ah, dreams, the places they take us!

  • Can we handle the truth?

This morning I had a discussion with one of my daughters on being an "authentic Christian."  It's a popular topic these days, you can find it on blogs, in books, in dialogue on the church...it's out there.  We came to the conclusion, in this discussion anyway, that like the line by Jack Nicholson in the movie "A Few Good Men" which states, "You can't handle the truth!", we wondered, can we handle the truth; raw authenticity?

I hung up the phone and got on with my day, beginning with a project I planned to do before Thanksgiving.  I bought one of those compartmentalized shoe holders that is stored under a bed, so now that Christmas is over, maybe it's time to put my summer shoes out of the way...for the first time ever!

Remember, my back is out, so I tried bending over a few times to reach the shoes...that didn't work.  I remembered my mother-in-law used to sit in a chair while she cleaned out drawers.  As much as I hated to cave to that idea, it worked, I could get a little closer to the floor without actually sitting on it, but still couldn't reach the back of the closet.  I needed a Captain Hook contraption.  A wire hanger worked just fine.

I'm hooking shoes, tossing them on the bed, dust bunnies are flying everywhere and I was generally making more mess to clean up!  Thirty minutes later the shoes were neatly packed, all ready to live under the bed...

There's one of those bunnies, on the bed, just above the shoe holder!

Ah, my closet is so happy!

All the while I was cleaning, which included the vacuum finding more bunnies under the bed, blowing them around the room, which eventually forced me to clean the whole floor...sheesh!  Anyway, I had lots of time to think about the previous conversation, on being real, getting real with myself, not hiding the real, dusty, unorganized me, and I wondered to myself, could anyone handle the truth?  Can you?

Here it is!  I left the bedroom feeling so proud of myself for finally putting the shoe holder to work and here's what my house told me I should have been doing BEFORE making a big mess in our bedroom!

  • So why should I worry?

All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be - Psalm 139:16

The following is from Soul Food www.chipkirk.com

The number of my days was written in God's book before one of them came to be. I cannot live one day more or one day less than what is penned in that divine ink.  If God wants me to live I cannot die, and if He wants me to die I cannot live.  My days are determined and my death is destined according to the perfect plan of the Sovereign Lord of time and eternity.  I will live until He is finished with me, die when He is done with me, breath until I complete the work He has given me to do, and then see Him face to face when I die.  Apart from the will of God bullets cannot stop me, planes cannot drop me, knives cannot cut me, bombs cannot hurt me, economic crises cannot break me, famines cannot starve me, and the host of Hell combined cannot touch me.  I am covered with Christ's blood, clothed in His righteousness, controlled by His Spirit, cocooned in His love, contented in His will, connected to Him constantly, and complete in Him.  So why should I worry?--Chip Kirk

I am immortal until my work is done.--John Wesley
